MLS brings Thiery Henry to New York Red Bulls

Soccer is seriously on it’s way up in America now that such a marquee name has been added to the rolls of an MLS club. Many people will argue that Henry is 32 and therefore he is coming to MLS for a nice retirement package, but I disagree. First off he is only 2 years removed from leading Barcelona in goals, and at the age of 32 many players have still played some of their best ball (e.g. Giggs, Maldini). Being 30 doesn’t automatically mean your washed up, it does mean that you might have to play differently than when you were 18, but Michael Jordan still was able to dominate the league well into his 30′s.

For the MLS, he will once again raise the profile, and for a market/club, New York Red Bulls, that desperately needs to be relevant on the world stage.

I get goosebumps watching his compilations videos on Youtube.  Watch this and know that one of the best to ever play the game is now here in MLS… if he is only half as good as he was last year in Barca, then it’ll be worth the price of admission every time.

My look back at South Africa 2010: the music

Music is such a beautiful medium.  It has this crazy, otherworldly ability to transport your mind to the point were you can sometimes even relive the sensations. Well, after watching the World Cup come to an end, I was itching for those familiar sounds of South Africa. Here are some of my favorites tracks that were part of my World Cup 2010 experience (or watch playlist)

the South African anthem

Bafana Bafana Mash up

Black Eye Pea’s – I got a feeling got everyone hype during the concert

Changes Remix – South Africans love some house and when they played this track everyone just started jumping

K’naan and Wavin’ Flag was guaranteed to get any crowd hype

Shakira’s anthem just grew on you (though it’s ripped straight from an origanl African artist)
